Woodstock opens Fire Station 28 at 1009 Ridgewalk Parkway with a push-in ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. A community lunch and station tours follow.

Woodstock’s newest fire station opens to the public Saturday. Fire Station 28 is at 1009 Ridgewalk Parkway, near the I-575 interchange.

The city announced the opening in a release on Nov. 4. Residents are invited to the ceremony and to tour the station.

When and where

  • What: a fire truck push-in and fire hose uncoupling ceremony, then a community lunch
  • When: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7; lunch is served until 2 p.m.
  • Where: Fire Station 28, 1009 Ridgewalk Parkway
  • Who will be there: local officials, neighboring fire departments and city staff, the city said

What the station has

The city said the new station has:

  • 11,000 square feet of space
  • three apparatus bays
  • a quint fire truck
  • living quarters and training space for firefighters

The design focuses on firefighter safety, operational readiness and long-term efficiency, the city said.

Why it matters

The city said Station 28 will improve emergency response in Woodstock’s northern corridor. It will also strengthen mutual aid coverage for neighboring jurisdictions.

“This station represents a major investment in public safety and reflects our city’s commitment to protecting residents as Woodstock continues to grow,” Fire Chief Shane Dobson said in the release. “Station 28 will significantly improve response times and allow our firefighters to better serve the community.”

The department’s history page says headquarters moved to 225 Arnold Mill Road in May 2001. The city opened its second station in July 2004. The department earned an ISO rating of 1, the top fire protection grade, effective April 1, 2015, the page says.

How it was built and paid for

Construction began in September 2025, the city said. Croft & Associates designed the station and Spratlin Construction built it.

The opening release said the station was made possible through SPLOST funding, from the special purpose local option sales tax. The city’s announcement of the fiscal 2027 budget in June described the money differently. It said construction of two new stations is supported by “a 2025 URA bond issued for this purpose.”

The second of those stations is Station 34 on Long Drive. The budget lists both stations for completion in fiscal 2027, which runs through June 30, 2027. The city has not announced an opening date for Station 34.

What it means for you

  • If you live or work near Ridgewalk Parkway, the I-575 interchange or The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta, a fire engine should now reach you from a station much closer by.
  • Nothing changes in how you get help. Call 911 in an emergency.
  • Saturday’s ceremony is open to the public. It is a chance to see inside the station before it settles into daily service.

The station sits near the Ridgewalk Parkway interchange, where the state is building a diverging diamond. Lane changes there are on our road construction and closures page.
