Woodstock's 1.5-mile Noonday Creek Trail extension opens Saturday, Nov. 14, running from downtown under Highway 92 to Noonday Creek Park in Cobb County.

Woodstock’s Noonday Creek Trail will reach Cobb County when a 1.5-mile extension opens to the public Saturday, Nov. 14.

The new section runs south from the trailhead near Reformation Brewery and Elm Street Green to Noonday Creek Park in Cobb County. It passes beneath Highway 92 and follows the Noonday Creek corridor. The City of Woodstock announced the opening date in a news release on its website.

Officials from the city, Cherokee County, Cobb County, the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Department of Transportation broke ground in December 2023, the city said. GDOT provided funding support. The release does not give the project’s cost.

“This project has been nearly a decade in the making, and we’re thrilled to celebrate its completion,” Mayor Michael Caldwell said in the release.

What the extension connects

Until now the Noonday Creek Trail has run from Market Street downtown, over a bridge on Noonday Creek, to Woofstock Park on Dupree Road. Our guide to Woodstock’s walking and biking trails has the existing routes and trailheads.

The city says the extension links Woodstock’s and Cherokee County’s trails to Cobb County’s trail network and, eventually, to the Silver Comet Trail.

That last step depends on Cobb County. Its own Noonday Creek Trail Extension is a four-mile trail planned from the existing Bells Ferry Trailhead, through Noonday Creek Park, to Shallowford Road, according to the county’s request for qualifications for the design work. The county’s plans include:

  • a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail with 2-foot unpaved shoulders
  • boardwalk over wetlands and areas that flood
  • crossings beneath roads using existing bridges, including the Shallowford Road bridge
  • a larger trailhead at the north end of Noonday Creek Park, near the Shallowford Road entrance

Cobb County’s October 2026 SPLOST status report lists that project as on track, with preliminary engineering in progress. It carries a budget of $2,302,500 and a due date of Dec. 31, 2030.

The same report lists a separate $1.2 million Noonday Creek Trail pedestrian bridge over Cobb Parkway (U.S. 41). Design is in progress, and the county expects to seek construction bids in summer 2027.

What it means for you

  • From Saturday, Nov. 14, you can walk, run or ride from downtown Woodstock to Noonday Creek Park in Cobb County on a paved trail, without crossing Highway 92 at street level.
  • The city has not published a time or a ceremony for the opening in its release. We will add them here if it does.
  • A continuous trail ride from Woodstock to the Silver Comet Trail is still years away. Cobb’s connecting section is in engineering, with a 2030 due date.
  • For parking downtown, the City Center East deck has more than 600 free spaces, per our trails guide. Our parks and trails page lists other trailheads.

“The completion of this project demonstrates what can be accomplished through strong partnerships and a shared vision,” City Manager Jeff Moon said in the release.
