The City of Woodstock does not sell electricity. Homes and businesses in and around Woodstock buy power from Georgia Power or from an electric membership cooperative (EMC), and the company depends on your address. Your power bill shows which one you have. The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce lists four providers in the county.

Who to call in an outage

Georgia Power

Georgia Power takes outage reports 24 hours a day at 888-891-0938, through its mobile app, and on its Outage & Storm Center. The outage map shows current outages and restoration estimates. For a downed line, Georgia Power says to call 911 or 888-891-0938 so the line can be barricaded until it is repaired. Customer service for billing and starting service: 888-660-5890.

Cobb EMC

Cobb EMC members can report an outage three ways: the online outage form, a text of OUT to 898-362, or a call to 770-429-2100. Its outage map shows active outages and estimated restoration times, and the Outage & Storm Center has a guide to reading the map and an explanation of common outage causes. Cobb EMC also offers outage alerts.

Sawnee EMC and Amicalola EMC

Both co-ops serve parts of Cherokee County, according to the Chamber of Commerce. Check their websites or call: Sawnee EMC at 770-887-2363 and Amicalola EMC at 706-253-5200.

Before you call

  1. Check whether your neighbors have power. If only your home is out, check your breaker panel.
  2. Look at your utility’s outage map; if your area is already shown, the utility knows.
  3. Report it anyway if the map does not show your street.
  4. Keep your account number or the phone number on your account handy.

Water, gas and other utilities in an outage

  • City water and sewer: report water outages or leaks to the city’s Water & Sewer Utility at 770-592-6006 during business hours or 770-926-7871 after hours.
  • Natural gas: pipes in metro Atlanta belong to Atlanta Gas Light (800-427-5463), whatever company sends your gas bill. See our moving guide for how gas service works.

Storm season

The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City issues watches and warnings for Cherokee County; check the forecast for Woodstock. The city sends weather closures and other alerts through its email and text news service.

If you depend on electric medical equipment, tell your utility and plan a backup before storm season.

What this means for you
